Prosthetics

After the extraction of one or more teeth, it is advisable to make a prosthesis that will replace individual missing teeth. This is very important, because on the one hand it allows us to restore the natural life activity, which is chewing food, on the other hand it prevents the movement of other teeth, their weakening or gradual distortions.

Nowadays, prosthetics has evolved considerably, enabling you to create a complement in almost every case. At the same time, the materials used are more durable and aesthetic, and (especially important for patients) comfortable to use.

In our dental office in Gdansk during the prosthetic consultation together with the patient, we determine what type of prosthesis will be best suited to the needs. This decision consists of many factors, such as the position of the gap in the dentition, the condition of the remaining teeth and many more.

Due to the wide range of dentures used in dentistry, their qualification was created, dividing particular types due to the method of attachment. There can be distinguished permanent or mobile prostheses.

The first of them are distinguished by the fact that they can not be removed without medical intervention. They are permanently placed on the patient’s teeth.

This category includes primarily:

  • * crowns – they are used for heavily damaged or too small teeth; they can be put on both live and dead teeth; they significantly strengthen the natural structure of the tooth, and at the same time affect the aesthetics of the teeth,
  • * bridges –it is used in the absence of one to several teeth; the condition for their establishment are healthy and strong neighboring teeth, which are to become a pillar for the bridge.

Movable dentures, on the other hand, enable their free removal, eg for the purpose of cleaning food or overnight. Although this solution is considered to be less aesthetic and comfortable than crowns or bridges, they also have a significant advantage. It is an even distribution of strength when chewing food into a larger space, which as a result does not burden the rest of the teeth.

Additions of this type can be divided into both its range and the material used. The first division concerns first of all whether the prosthesis is complete (complementing the entire dental arch) or partial (it complements several deficiencies).

The second division, however, is based on the methods and materials used to create the supplement.

It can be a prosthesis:

  • *  acrylic – made of acrylic resin, based on metal buckles running on the surface of the remaining teeth,
  • *  backbone – it is usually inserted in the absence of a few teeth adjacent teeth, it is a more comfortable solution from the point of view of the patient, because it does not disturb the taste sensation and takes up less space in the oral cavity.

How does prosthetic treatment work?

For every patient who comes to our dental office in Gdansk, we pay the first visit for a thorough prosthetic consultation. We then control in detail the state of the mouth, the number of missing teeth and the possibility of using a specific supplement.

We also conduct an interview with the patient, learning about his expectations of prosthetic treatment, as well as general health. If necessary, we also take an X-ray (pantomogram), on the basis of which you can see any irregularities in the patient’s teeth.

This consultation enables the doctor to prepare proposals for the patient regarding the preferred methods of delivery, the treatment’s target effects and their costs. Based on the patient’s decision, the doctor informs about the further course of the completion process.

The next stage is the implementation of special impressions, which will form the basis for creating a supplement, tailored to the individual line of the patient’s gums. During this time, the color of the prosthesis also adjusts.

At the next visit, the patient receives an exemplary supplement created with the use of wax, created according to individual parameters. This allows you to eliminate any irregularities in the created form. Once it is properly matched to the bite of the patient, the right cast is made, which is passed on to the patient at the next visit.

However, the treatment does not end there. One should for a certain period of time apply for follow-up visits during which the correct method of prosthesis placement is monitored.
