One of the methods of filling missing teeth is placing an implant. It is a relatively young technique that allows you to recreate activities of life. At the same time it most faithfully reflects the natural physiology of the teeth, eliminating the need for periodic replacement of the restoration or special attention to the appropriate placement in the jaw.

Dental implants are a permanent solution. The finished implant consists of a small titanium screw, as well as a crown, made of durable composite. The individual elements are fully bio-absorbable, resistant to damage or modifications. Fixing in the jaw bone makes the finished implant permanent and fulfills the same functions as natural teeth.

This method does not require the use of adjacent teeth to support the prosthesis, so it can be used in people who have a larger deficiency in dentition or adjacent teeth are weak. In the case of traditional prostheses, the latter are exposed to significant weakness or even damage.

As a result, the patient who decided to put on a dental implant does not feel the discomfort associated with the removable prosthetic filling, and in addition, the implant can be treated like any healthy tooth – brushed, cleaned with thread, etc.

What does the implantation of a dental implant look like?

In our dental office in Gdansk, the implantation process begins with a general consultation. During its duration, we examine the general health of the patient, the possibility of starting this type of implant, we also exclude any contraindications.

The most common obstacles to starting implants are, among others:

  • – heart diseases,
  • – some bone diseases,
  • – oncological treatment,
  • – some mental illness,
  • – pregnancy,

By standard, we also carry out radiological diagnostics by taking a pantomographic picture. On its basis, we assess the condition of bone tissue – its quantity and quality.

In some cases, additional preimplantation surgery should be performed. This requires a person with a small amount of bone tissue or a weak structure. Then the bone is augmented, the bottom of the maxillary sinus, bone block transplant or Piezosurgery are raised.

The implantation process of dental implants consists of two stages – surgical and prosthetic.

The first step:

consists in creating a small hole in the bone, using special, calibrated drills. Then a bolt made of titanium is placed in the hole, which will be the basis for the implant. The whole procedure takes about 20 minutes and is carried out under local anesthesia. After its completion, the implant is not visible.

After placing the screw in the bone, the wound healing occurs. Most often it lasts from 2 to 6 months. At this time, the implant fuses with the bone, resulting in natural stability, proper to healthy, healthy teeth. Especially during the first weeks of osteointegration, special precautions should be taken to ensure that the healing process is successful.

When the doctor detects that the osseointegration process has come to an end, reveals the implant, screw in an additional, smaller healing screw, and also models the gum.

The second step:

called prosthetic, after about 14 days.

It involves taking prosthetic impressions, creating a proper tooth crown and fixing it. The exact color of the implant is determined by the doctor together with the patient.

After completion of implantation in our dental office in Gdansk, doctors indicate good oral hygiene practices, as well as establish with the patient dates of follow-up visits during which it is checked whether the implant is functioning properly.
